SOLD OUT || Tea-Tasting Workshop: The Teas of India with Angie Parker of A Cup of Kindness Tea

Saturday, November 26, 2022, 1-3pm

$55+hst (materials included)

Join Angie Parker of A Cup of Kindness Tea – local purveyor of looseleaf, organic teas and tea blends – on a flavourful journey to India!

India is the second largest producer of tea, next to China: the English Breakfast tea you are accustomed to is most likely a blend of teas from India. In the 1800s camellia sinensis (the tea plant from China) was planted in the Assam region of India, but the climate was not suitable and the plants did not take root. A different tea plant was discovered in India, and it successfully grew, becoming the assamica variety of camellia sinensis.

In this workshop you will discover the teas of the three main tea-producing regions of India: Assam, Darjeeling, and Nilgiri. Participants will learn the geography and history of three regions, examine the dry and wet leaf of each tea, and smell and taste the teas. Each tea has its own uniqueness due to the climate and altitude of where it is grown. The workshop will finish off with a cup of masala chai, an Indian tea beverage that has gained worldwide popularity.
