SOLD OUT | Tattered Heart Fabric Collage | Monday, February 14, 2022, 1-4pm | $75 + HST (includes all materials)

Fabric collage is a fascinating method of textile construction that results in a unique, storied and textured visual display. In this class, we’ll be using a variety of vintage embroidered linen pieces cut up and reassembled according to the student’s vision onto a foundation fabric that is heart-shaped, adding buttons, beads, ribbon and/or our own embroidery stitches to the composition. With the addition of a backing with a pocket, a loop for hanging, and a metal bell at the bottom, the collage becomes a delightful heart ornament (approximately 6 1/2 inches high) to gift to a friend or loved one, or to be cherished by its maker. We’ll use only natural materials to make these tattered hearts, including wool and cotton thread, wool backing cloth, linen and cotton vintage fabrics (some of them tinted by me using plant dyes), wood and shell buttons and cotton ribbon. The hearts are stuffed with wool and dried lavender, which lends a gentle fragrance to the finished product. If you’re intrigued by the idea of a “soft” collage, this is the workshop for you!
