SOLD OUT || Dyeing Sashiko Thread Workshop: Three Methods of Using Natural Dyes on Plant Fibres
Monday, June 6, 10am – 1pm
Sashiko thread is a 100% cotton embroidery thread traditionally used for Japanese sashiko but so versatile in its applications: it can be used for weaving, bookbinding, mending and other fibre arts. In this class, we will dye sashiko thread with natural dyes using three distinct methods: kettle-dyeing, steam-dyeing, and dyeing using a modified mordant. Students will learn all the necessary stages to prepare plant-based fibres to receive and retain natural dyes, from scouring, to mordanting, to dyeing. Participants will come away with three shades of dyed sashiko thread for their personal use as well as the skills and knowledge for tackling future, larger plant-fibre dyeing projects.
Cost: $70+hst (includes materials)
